Laser Surgery

INTRODUCTION

Although there was great enthusiasm for lasers in surgery the promise of accurate targeting and clean cutting was not produced. The laser cutting tool had a number of side effects that decreased its use in minimal access surgery. Lam Wah Ee previously used lasers but has now changed to the piezo-electric blade for greater safety of its patients.

However for open and endoscopic procedures laser fiber surgery is available.

Some examples of laser fiber use are in haemorrhoid surgery, treatment of cancers in the gastrointestinal tract and skin lesions
