Clinical Psychologists help clients to identify problems, including emotional, mental and behavioural in their lives. Through observation, interviews and tests, the clinical psychologists will diagnose any existing or potential difficulties/disorders. Then, together with the client, they will formulate a treatment plan according to the client's needs. Clinical psychologists will monitor the client's progress on a regular basis to ensure that their needs are met by the course of action, and to adjust it if necessary.
Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to life issues which cause emotional turmoil, help clients to improve communication and coping skills, strengthen their self-esteem, promote behaviour change and optimal mental health
Medical social workers provide effective medical social support services to patients and families where illness, medical care and treatment are complicated by social and emotional problems. They work closely with other departments within the hospital such as welfare officers, patient educators, dietitians and extend it to other different professionals such as NGOs, social agencies and health care services in managing cases. Besides, they also plan, organize, coordinate and implement social work programs such as Cancer Support Group and Volunteer Club.
Psychotherapy/Counselling is the use of psychological means to assist clients in addressing and overcoming issues that cause distress.
Teletherapy is using telecommunication technologies to provide Psychotherapy/ Counselling in order to assist client in addressing and overcoming issues that cause distress.
Psychological assessments are tests that are administered to help assess client's functioning in various areas. Psychological assessments are used to obtain information pertinent to diagnoses of mental health conditions, to understand the nature of the underlying problem and impacts on the individual, to identify the factors that could have maintained the problem and also to predict which areas the client is likely to face difficulties. These tests may be used to assess the following areas:
Psychoeducation is a form of education aimed at increasing awareness of mental health issues and preventing mental illness. In psychoeducation, clients and their significant others shall gain information on how to manage, cope and care for others with mental health problems/illnesses.
In biofeedback, client practices the mind-body techniques along with therapist as he/she listens to the guidance from therapist and receiving personal, real-time feedback on-screen. This feedback allows the client to gain voluntary control over physiological processes/responses.
Children express more of themselves through play than speech. For children, toys are their words and play is their conversation. They will use the play materials to directly or symbolically act out feelings, thoughts and experiences that they are not able to meaningfully express through words. Children are able to communicate and play out how they feel to the therapist leading to improved ability to cope with their difficulties and find healthier solutions.
Discharge planning allows clients and their families to prepare for the transition from hospital to home or another level of care. We assess the psychosocial needs of clients and families before we intervene with the aim to enable clients to receive continuing care after they leave the hospital environment.
We provide information and referral services for accessing to community resources, on medical equipment, nursing home, related social agencies and health care facilities based on client's specific needs.
We conduct home visit where the helping process can be more effective if conducted at home.
We provide support to people whose lifestyles are affected by cancer with the aim to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors and their caregivers.
